The Leeds Climate Commission, launched in September 2017, is the inspiration for two new similar commissions in UK cities.

Edinburgh and Belfast will each have their own energy and climate commission, along the lines of the Leeds model, as part of a new £3.5 million five-year project funded by the ESRC.

The project, called the Place-based Climate Action Network (P-CAN) will see the new commissions coming on stream shortly, with the hope that others will follow as part of a network across the UK.

It will also see new 'platforms' being created on business and finance as part of the package, which will also have a total of 400,000 to give out in smaller grants for engagement and research projects.

The award is due to be announced by Claire Perry MP, Minister of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, at the Investing in Local Energy national conference in Leeds on 31 January 2019.
