Help Leeds to become a city that #LeedsByExample
Environmental charity Hubbub, along with Zero Waste Leeds and Leeds City Council, would like to invite you to help us solve some of the big waste challenges facing Leeds.
Are you an academic, student or involved in education in Leeds? We're calling on your brilliant brainpower, expertise and ideas at this half-day hackathon workshop. Whether you work in communications, data, education, facilities or sustainability, we’d love a few hours of your time so together we can think about opportunities and solutions to some of the waste challenges we face.
What’s the issue?
Leeds produces over 600,000 tonnes of waste per year. Everything we buy, use and throw away has an impact on our city and the wider environment.
What’s the opportunity?
Leeds City Council plan to create a new Waste and Resources Strategy and there is the opportunity for Leeds to harness local innovation, increase public awareness and appetite for action on waste, to create positive change locally, plus influence national strategic decision-making to continue to #LeedsByExample.
What’s the aim of the event?
To get people thinking and talking about important waste issues, and to decide the top three challenges and opportunities for Leeds around waste. We’ll come up with a priority list to help hack into some big issues around waste reduction, recycling and reuse.
You’ll be helping to answer key questions like:
- What research, skills and innovation is there in Leeds?
- How can we better talk about how we use our stuff?
- What role is there for technology and data to better manage waste?
- What could a longer-term waste vision for Leeds look like?
Please join us to share what you think are the main waste challenges facing Leeds, what you are currently doing around waste reduction, reuse and recycling and how we might collaborate and collectively discuss a way forward.
